Chicken Tractor Prototype: 17 December 2017 Update

Welp … it took me three different designs to finally come up with a mechanism for towing the prototype tractor from point A to point B without putting too much lateral stress on the bottom of the dome, which isn’t strong enough to sustain that much lateral force.

The current design isn’t part of the dome itself, but instead a rather large skid frame (16′ x 10′) with a single cantilever mounted caster wheel in the back.

Before I could test the new skid system, I had to first remove two fence posts from the pasture fence on one side of the gate to have enough room to drag the chicken tractor through the gate and into the pasture.  I could have dug up the posts, but that sounded like too much work and my right wrist is TOTALLY SNAFU … so I instead just ripped out the posts with the truck winch.  😉

Only thing left to do was hitch the chicken tractor to the Mahindra tractor and do a drag test, which went pretty well.

Next steps:  Get the chicken feeder, waterer, roost and nest boxes installed.  Then, install chicken wire to keep predators out, and tarp the ceiling to keep the weather elements out.  Then, BUILD FOUR MORE.  Yikes.

User Registration Fixed (with a Caveat)

Got the user registration bug fixed.  Below, in the lower-right of this page, you should see a Registration form.  Fill it out, click the submit button, and once I approve your request, you’re in!
What you DON’T want to do is click on the Login link (below, right) and click in the “Register” link on the bottom of the login page.  I fixed the issue of that mechanism rejecting registration requests as a ‘Suspected Bot’ … but the registration form below is a much cleaner process, which I’ve tested, and it works!  😉
Welcome aboard …

User Registration SNAFU

Hello!

Just a quick note to let you know that until further notice, the user registration feature of this blog is broken.  I need a few days to get caught up on other projects, then I’ll invest the time to get the registration feature fixed.

Once the fix is completed, tested and verifiably WORKING … I’ll post another update announcing the feature fix.

Hasta.

New FCL Blog Launch!

Hello all … whoever you are.

As an alternative to Facebook (hate it) and YouTube (too video centric), I’ve decided to launch my own personal blog, which you’re viewing here, called www.FineCountryLiving.com.

With this blog, I’ll update those interested in the various projects we’ve got going here on ‘the farm.’  In addition to project updates, I plan to also share any other content I deem to be appropriate to the ‘channel.’  What does that mean?  Simple … anything I think relevant to … Fine Country Living.

I’m going to make EVERY attempt to avoid posting anything purely political, or overly inflammatory in nature.  But, I’m certainly liable to post thoughts, ideas, observations or concerns I might have — or develop — on any given day.

My overarching goal is allow interested people to ‘opt in’ to being kept up-to-speed with what we’re doing here in Efland, NC, and to share any wisdom we may accrue as we plod along our day-to-day learning curve as it relates to our farming, livestock and permaculture-related work.

More to follow, once I get the blog infrastructure built up a bit more, and fleshed out.  I have a lot of WordPress learning to do in order design this site to reflect my vision, personality and visual style.

Peace.  Out.  😉
